About The Event

Soultrap is the NEW SPOT in Sydney’s CBD for POETRY, now hosting monthly on Wednesdays.

Opening the mic to budding and established poets, writers and comics or simply those who appreciate the spoken word.

X. 3 minute set (keep it TIGHT! baby) so we don’t gotta yell NEXT!

X. No scoring like other slams, it’s subjective and we’re not looking to kill anyone’s spirit 🤣

X. Connect with other creatives, test out new material or just sit in the audience and enjoy the vibe.

X. Book your Spot! While we welcome the spontaneous type who seize the mic, due to time constraints we will have a select amount of performers on the night. Those who want to lock in their spot ahead of time or have any questions please contact Dani via dani.h.obrien@gmail.com.

Poetry Slam…Kinda

This poetry slam operates differently than most, in that those meeting the mic will not be judged/scored by the audience (overtly anyway haha) this is a space for writers, poets and comedians to work out new material and leave judgement for another day.

Safe Space for all

No wack material containing anything racisit, sexist, homophobic, transphobic or we will call SECURITYYYYYYYYYYY, and your momma to express how disappointed we are.

Acknowledgement of Country

This poetry slam takes place on Gadigal land, New Hippy respectfully acknowledges elders past, present and emerging as we intend to create safe spaces for stories to be shared on what has and always will be Aboriginal land.

Donations

This event is FREE and volunteer based so it is accessible for local creatives short on a dime. Should you be in a position to and want to contribute a lil somethin’ somthin’ please do so we can keep this event running and continue to feed back into the writing community.

This slam is dedicated to the memory of Nicola Zarimis Gravett.

Nicola published Layla Lane Lessons in Love in January, 2024 just a few months before passing to rave reviews trending #19 in the UK charts and #35 Aussie for top reads in romance ❤️‍🔥

Layla Lane Lessons in Love

Layla Lane is a 30-year-old self-proclaimed hopeful romantic, who has lived her life by one simple principle: keep your heart open. Always the eternal optimist, Layla believes that for every time you get knocked down in love, you should stand again ready to continue the pursuit.

Today is the morning of Layla’s wedding. As she excitedly prepares to marry her Greatest Love, she reflects on the decade of romance that led her to this point. Every bad mistake, every McBurger chuffed down in the afterhours of heartache, every lesson learned from dating the wrong guys.

Set in Sydney, Australia, Layla Lane: Lessons in Love follows the ups and downs of Layla’s journey to ‘the one’, alongside her two best friends and the chaos that ensues in the fight for a good love story.
